Grazing the natural vegetation of the land and living at high altitude results in lean, high protein meat that is more nutritious and lower in fat and cholesterol than beef and skinless chicken breast. The lean, juicy meat has a mild, clean flavor similar to high-end grass-fed beef.
Our meat is USDA certified and we never use hormones or antibiotics.
More than 600 Yak graze on our nearly 10,000-acre ranch on the foothills of the East Spanish Peak in southern Colorado. Sitting between 7,500 to 10,500 feet in elevation, our herd thrives with ample space to roam.
What’s in a Name
Wahatoya Yak pays homage to the original residents of the land. The two mountains now known as the Spanish Peaks were an important landmark and held in religious awe by the Ute and other Native American tribes who named the mountains Wahatoya, meaning “Breasts of the Earth”.
We continue their respect and admiration of this special place, working to do what’s right by the land and our herd.
